You may have heard of or read the phrase “academic essay writing,” but do not have a specific idea of what it really means. The phrase refers to a school activity or an educational task in which a student has to write a short piece of intellectual non-fiction composition. Essays can be written by anyone anywhere anytime, but when it is written specifically for academic purpose, it considered as an academic essay.
Academic essay writing is not centred on one style of composition. Rather, it can be done using different writing styles.
For example, in an argumentative essay, the writer tries to position himself in one side of the argument over a certain topic. The writer’s aim would be to strongly defend his position on the subject. In a descriptive essay, meanwhile, the writer attempts to describe a certain object, person, place and others. The writer’s intention is to impress into the minds of the reader a clear image of the object being described.
Academic essay writing is not only based on the writing style, but may also depend on the subject being tackled. For example, in writing history essays, a student should tackle any topic related with history.
The student should not attempt to write about plants, for that would be under the biology subject. Subject-based essays are becoming more prevalent today, since sometimes there are students who would venture out of the subject matter if asked to write according to certain style.
Academic essays are such important part of school curriculum. Students have been writing essays since their primary years until they graduate from college. Professors and teachers assign academic essays mainly because these types of academic papers allow them to educate and at the same time assess their students. No wonder that essays are still very common.
